Once Lily complete the sculpt of the girls head, I started to create the hair.
For this I brought some mouse blonde hair extensions from eBay, these weren't that expensive only £9 pound for a complete head set. I then glued small sections of the extensions to the head, using two part epoxy, as shown below. Slowly building up the layers, to create a more realistic look.
Once the head was mostly covered, here came the most difficult part of the entire process. Figuring out how to create the hair line, without having the sewn part of the extensions showing.
Initially I was going to try and fold over the hair and fix into place with the epoxy. But when testing this process, it failed miserably and I nearly ended up gluing my fingers together.
So in the end I ended up getting my mother’s iron out, folding the extension with the use of a tea towel. To ensure it stayed in one place when ironing. Then using the steam setting to steam the extensions into place. It worked out brilliantly!
Once I had ironed enough pieces, I then placed the different segments carefully into place and glued them onto the head with epoxy. The results are shown below:
